Contest Requirements

  • You must either be a Singaporean or Permanent Resident (PR) of Singapore.
  • Entries can be submitted by a group (where all members must be Singaporeans or PRs), or an individual.
  • There is no limit to the number of groups you can join.
  • Each group/individual can only join ONE category and submit a maximum of THREE art works.
  • Entries must reach GED before 15 March 2010.

The Theme

  • We want local eyedeers inspired by and about anything related to Singapore; be it our landscape,
    architecture, heritage, people, sights, sounds and even our glorious food! Inspired by your kacang
    puteh man? Can! Or how your friend did a Merlion? Or bowled over by our Durians? Also can!
    We welcome all your designs and eyedeers about our dear island home.
  • Leave those seen before Eyedeers at home! We're looking for spanking newbaby Eyedeers.

Judges' Profiles

KELLEY CHENG
Graduating from NUS in 1994 with a Bachelor of Architecture (Honours),
Kelley Cheng is an award winning editor, creative director and designer
whose contributions to the local design community has given her a prolific
status.

She started as a freelance writer in various local publications. In 1999,
she combined her love for writing and design and founded iSh magazine. iSh
is a design magazine that focuses on the pulse of developments and issues
in design, art, architecture and the urban landscape, in which she sits as
Editorial Director. iSh has won accolades in the Design for Asia Award
(2005) and Society of Publishers in Asia (2006, 2007, 2009) for Best
Magazine Design. Kelley is also the Editor-in-Chief/Creative Director for
Singapore Architect magazine and founder of publishing and design
consultancy The Press Room in 2009.

In support of local talent, Kelley set up Night & Day, as well as 15
Minutes – two restaurant/gallery joints. She also sits on the advisory
panels for educational and design institutions (Singapore Polytechnic’s
School of Design, Singapore Furniture Industry Council Design Development
Committee, etc). She has been curator for various art exhibitions, sat on
numerous judging panels for local and international design competitions
(Red Dot Awards, Design for Asia, Creative Circle awards, etc)

Most recently, Kelley was celebrated as one of 2009 Great Women of Our
Time in the Art & Design category – an annual event held by Singapore
Women’s Weekly with the support of various Singapore Ministries &
Ministers).

ERIC LEE
A graduate from the Birmingham Institute of Art & Design, University of
Central England, in Multimedia Art (First Class Honours), Eric Lee started
his career in multimedia design in 2001 and has been active in the design
scene ever since.

His industry experience as multimedia and interaction designer, as well as
interactive media specialist has provided him a strong background in
multimedia technology, design research and media programming.

His design portfolio boasts works for clients on a local and international
level (Creative Technology and Exclusive Groups, Moet Hennessy,
Volkswagen, Alfa Romeo, Renault and Tiger Beer.) He also works with a
design collective group, Momorobo, where the works were featured in
several International publications such as IDN and Computer Arts.

Apart from working in the design industry, Eric has been involved in
training and developing new media production skills with various schools
in Singapore. He also takes a more hands on approach and teaches
Interactive Media at Orita Sinclair School of Art and New Media.

FRANCIS NG
Francis Ng is an artist who strives to stretch the potential in his art
and engage his audiences in an intellectual dialogue. In his creative
explorations, his strong intellectual framework can manifest in conceptual
works that are installation and photography based; or in a combination
media that demonstrates his artistic repertoire in relation to
contemporary issues surrounding art-making. Adept at harnessing the space
offered by these mediums, he has created platforms on which he invites
audience to respond to a myriad of spatial and identity concepts.

Francis Ng has been celebrated globally for his thought provoking pieces
and won a slew of accolades for his work in photography and
three-dimensional work. Francis was the winner of both the Juror's Choice
and the Grand Prize in the 2001/2002 Philip Morris Group of Companies
ASEAN Art Awards, the only Singaporean and first photographer to win the
Grand Prize. His work captured the relationship between the individual and
his surroundings, and illustrated his talent in composition, image making
through technology and a sensitivity for how objects relate in space and
the environment. He also has clinched the 1st Prize in the 23rd UOB
Painting of the Year Competition (Photography Category) in 2004. In 2006,
Francis was the recipient of the National Arts Council's Young Artist
Award.

His various pieces have been showcased on prestigious platforms such as
The President’s Young Talent Exhibition (2003), the 50th Biennale di
Venezia (2003), the Gwangju Biennale (2004), the ZKM Museum in Karlsruhe
(2007), the Singapore Art Show 2007 and Showcase Singapore 2008.

Most recently, Francis ventured into art entrepreneurship and founded
SHOWCASE NUMBER EIGHT ////////, a conceptual platform that champions the
cause for creative discourses.

IVONNE LAW
Graduating with a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design from the Raffles Design
Institute and Middlesex University UK, and having won many awards in her
student years (Singapore Graduate of the Year, Singapore Street Festival
Best Street Designer Contest, Coca Cola Unconventional Fun Award), Ivonnn
began her highly-anticipated design career in 2003.

She continues to demonstrate her flair for fashion, designing corporate
uniforms for globally renowned Hotel and Spa Groups, as well as fashion
labels for both American and European markets.

With a strong Research and Development (R&D) background, Ivonnn pursued
her design interests by working as a Senior Designer for the Textile and
Fashion Industry Training Centre (TaF.tc), as well as several export
houses within Singapore. Her stellar list of internationally acclaimed
clients include global fashion brands and mega entertainment companies.
She's also been featured on the Straits Times and LianHe ZaoBao for being
a noted fashion designer.

Ivonnn is now helping businesses benefit from the impact of design, as
part of DesignSingapore Council's Design for Enterprises (DFE) Initiative,
a government effort to encourage Singapore-based companies to unlock the
power of design, creating new and sustainable business value.

How Do I Join & Submit My Designs?

  • Download one of our templates here.(available in Illustrator,
    Freehand, Photoshop and JPEG format)
  • Design the T-Shirt in the style you’re best in. We accept all eyedeers – from
    illustrations, to photography, fine art, combinations of different art forms and
    even pictures of 3D models you have created – as long as they are your own.
  • Design specifications:
    • Each design should consist of no more than 8 colors (black and white included).
      Please note that each shade of color goes toward the count.
    • The file you upload should be in JPEG format, and no larger than 500kb.
    • The JPEG image you submit must not be blurry or pixilated.
  • Shortlisted entries will be contacted via email.
  • If your entry is shortlisted and we want to adopt your eyedeer, submit a file in
    either Photoshop, Illustrator or Freehand. Your shortlisted entry must have a minimum
    resolution of 300dpi at 100% of actual print size.
  • Each design has to be related to our theme.
  • You have to submit a write up of no more than 150 WORDS explaining why your
    eyedeer is special and how it relates to our theme.

Slingshot Studios, sister company to Catapult Advertising, focuses on multimedia design, animation, 3-D visualisations, integrated communications marketing and online branding. Naïve

NAIVE is a modern Asian restaurant focusing on using plant-based ingredients to concoct a flavourful and creative menu. Inspired by the wonders of nature this led to the birth of an exhibition/function space called CANOPY on the second floor of the conservation shop house. In this vein, Naïve collaborated with local youth groups and budding young artists to create a mural inspired by a "Naïve Forest" that spreads across the entire restaurant.

 

Samuel Seow Law Corporation

Samuel Seow Law Corporation is a firm whose area of expertise spreads across various legal areas.
